Motor Vehicle Thefts in Pennsylvania* (Since the General Assembly enacted legislation in 1994 creating the Pennsylvania Auto Theft Prevention Authority in 1995.)

Summary. In 1999, there were 36,751 motor vehicle thefts reported to Pennsylvania police departments, an average of 101 each day or one every 14 minutes and 18 seconds. This is a decrease of 9.7 percent from the 40,708 reported last year (and the lowest number of reported offenses on record). (Source: The Pennsylvania State Police)
