Which would you steal? Be smart, don't tempt an auto theft. Which would you steal? Be smart, don't tempt an auto theft.

Shopping bags, electronics and other valuables left in plain view attract auto thieves. They are like a holiday bonus to a thief who steals your car.

Unless you can add "new car" to your shopping list, hide your bags, electronics and valuables. Whether you are shopping, running errands or driving your daily commute, never leave your vehicle running unattended. In the winter, motorists often leave vehicles running unattended to keep them warm. If you don’t like getting into a cold car, imagine how cold you'll be waiting at the bus stop if your car is stolen. Leaving your vehicle running unattended and your holiday shopping bags and valuables in plain view is like inviting thieves to hop in your car and take off.

To keep your car safe this winter, always:

Turn off your engine, hide your valuables, lock your doors and take your keys.

Established by the General Assembly (Act 171 of 1994), the Authority exists "to establish, coordinate, and fund activities in (Pennsylvania) to prevent, combat, and reduce automobile theft..."

Our goal is to combat auto theft through tough laws, improved enforcement and administration, effective prosecution, and public education.

The Authority uses no tax dollars. Its funds are raised through annual assessments paid by nearly 400 auto insurance companies doing business in Pennsylvania. These funds facilitate a cooperative effort by the insurance industry, law enforcement agencies, and the citizens of the commonwealth.
